I have never read CJ Cherryh, but I am fond of her for the simple reason that she was a guest at a con I attended in the early 80s. A male acquaintance of mine came stomping out of her panel in an absolute fury of betrayal because she said something feminist (I have absolutely no idea what it was). It made me happy.
