PSA: If you plan to get your name legally changed (say, for gender reasons) and you reside in the US, Do Not change your name during tax season. To be on the safe side, give yourself a couple months to be sure all your documents are updated and the updates are all processed, because the various agencies in charge of those updates all want the same original copies of other identifying documents so you will have to wait for each one to be finished before starting the next.

Signed, someone who got most of their tax stuff sorted out a week before the deadline but still has to make a phone call tomorrow to try to convince the local tax office that they exist.
